POSITIVE BIBLICAL AFFIRMATIONS

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Proverbs 18:21

Philippians 4:13, 23 (KJV)

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

Teach your child to speak life over everything concerning them

On a day-to-day basis it is good for your child to encourage themselves by changing the pattern of their thoughts.

King David realized this when he faced a tough and disheartening situation in the Bible. Instead of reacting in weakness and trepidation to the compromising circumstance, he decided to do the opposite.

1 Samuel 30:6 (KJV)
And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.

Let your child affirm the truth of God’s Word by reciting scriptures

Throughout the Bible, there are so many precious promises and assurances that your child can remember each day. Your child can meditate on them in order to build up their confidence in God. Do you know that hope is powerful? To hope is to patiently expect the best out of a situation and if your child has this mindset daily they can surely overcome.

Romans 8:25 (KJV)
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

In the war against your child’s mind, it is essential for them to know who they truly are in Christ and how to fight negative thoughts that come from Satan.

2 Corinthians 10:4-5 (KJV)
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

On the right is a picture that highlights an A-Z of some Biblical affirmations. Your child can use these to remind themselves of how special and priceless they are in God's eyes.

Change your thoughts, change your words, change your actions, change your life.

Here are some practical steps to teach your child to value and appreciate who God made them to be.

Firstly, buy books and toys that represent your child accurately and use these tools to teach them about self-acceptance.

This is such an important step because they are visual and powerful tools to instil value in the heart of your child. These tools teach them that God made and fashioned them with intent and purpose and their young heart will beam with delight at the thought of this. As the famous hymn goes:

Red and yellow, black and white,
They are precious in His sight,
Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Practice Affirmations in the Mirror

Secondly, train your child in front of the mirror to see their reflection as a good thing and not a bad thing. Teaching your child to stand before a mirror while declaring great and positive truths about what they see will impact them for the rest of their lives. Perhaps stick some valuable sayings or scriptures on the mirror. Have your child recite these every morning or every evening.

Lastly correct them when they habitually say things like "I can't" or "I'm not good enough". Let them learn to overcome self-deprecation and sarcasm. Teach them they have a God that is able, willing and active in helping them in every situation. Teach them not to see their obstacles as giants and themselves as grasshoppers. God has commanded us to be courageous and strong. Here are some affirming scriptures to help with this point.

Joshua 1:9 (KJV)
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Romans 8:31 (KJV)
If God be for us, who can be against us?

Vision Boards

Have you thought about making a “vision board” with your child? It is just a board or a wall with some pictures and text stuck onto it. These could represent your child’s goals, dreams and aspirations for the future or upcoming year, for example. These could be written, drawn, printed out or cut out from magazines. The board itself has not got magical powers. But the power is in the God of the universe that answers your child’s prayers and bring such dreams to pass. The purpose of the vision board and the exercise of putting it together is to help your child be mindful of the Lord in their goals, dreams and visions. Here are some verses of encouragement:

Habakkuk 2:2 (KJV)

And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it.

Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

Proverbs 16:3 (KJV)

Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.

Psalm 37:4-5 (KJV)

Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)

Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Jeremiah 29:11 (KJV)

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

Philippians 4:6-8 (KJV)

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

The Hymn “Just As I Am”

Jesus loves your child, just as they are.

Just as I am, without one plea
But that Thy blood was shed for me
And that Thou bid'st me come to Thee
O Lamb of God, I come! I come…

He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.

Proverbs 19:8
